The Story of This Coffee
In the heart of Huabal, Peru, lies El Paraíso - a village that once hid a coffee treasure almost unnoticed. Local farmers had been growing coffee for generations, but their efforts often ended up with middlemen who offered them a fraction of the true value of their work.
Without the right guidance and support, farmers were losing the potential of their amazing region. Instead of carefully tended coffee trees, they were faced with unsuitable varieties, poor management and low yields. But this has begun to change - one step at a time. With the help of experts, local growers learned proper processing practices, gentle farming and careful bean selection so that their coffee could shine at its best.
Growing and harvesting
The coffee from El Paraíso grows on the mountain slopes of the Peruvian region of Huabal at altitudes between 1800 and 2050 metres above sea level. It is the high altitude and unique microclimate that give the coffee cherries their rich flavour complexity and natural sweetness.
Local farmers grow Caturra, Bourbon and Catimor, tending the coffee trees using traditional methods, often by hand and with a deep respect for nature. The coffee trees grow in the shade of taller trees, which help maintain optimal humidity and protect the fruit from direct sunlight.
The harvest is done entirely by hand, allowing only fully ripe cherries with the best flavour potential to be harvested. After harvesting, farmers carefully sort the cherries to ensure that only the best quality cherries make it to processing.
Exceptional coffee with an exceptional score
Cupping score is a scoring coffee quality rating used to assess the flavor characteristics of coffee. To be considered a cupping coffee, a coffee must achieve a cupping score of over 80 points.
In contrast, the commodity coffees you buy in supermarkets have scores below 80 points and are intended for mass production, where quality is not the main criterion. These coffees focus more on productivity and price.
Suitable preparation
Ideal for preparing espresso, where the full and balanced coffee flavour stands out, but also great for ffiltered coffee or French press. We recommend medium grind and fresh water for the best taste experience.
