The Story Behind This Coffee
El Santo comes from the Mexican region of Veracruz, where coffee has been grown for more than two centuries. Located along a volcanic belt near the Gulf of Mexico, the region offers excellent conditions for coffee cultivation thanks to its higher altitudes and abundance of natural water sources.
Behind this coffee is our partner La Laja, which works with more than 3,000 coffee producers across Veracruz. Alongside coffee quality, La Laja has a long-term commitment to sustainability and supporting local communities. It provides farmers with seedlings, training and access to financing, while also supporting education and community projects. La Laja holds Rainforest Alliance, UTZ and 4C certifications.
Cultivation & Processing
El Santo coffee comes from Veracruz, one of Mexico’s most important coffee-growing regions. Coffee trees here are grown mainly on small family-run farms at altitudes of approximately 1,000–1,600 metres above sea level, often under the shade of surrounding vegetation.
After harvesting, the coffee is processed using the fully washed method at La Laja’s facility in Veracruz. The modernised processing method significantly reduces water consumption compared to the traditional washed process, combining a focus on cup quality with a more sustainable approach to the region’s natural resources.
