The story of this coffee

The story of La Orquídea begins in the picturesque surroundings of the Colombian mountains, where members of Asoprocafees lovingly cultivate this exceptional organic coffee. Each bean comes from a farm that is carefully managed for sustainability and respect for nature. La Orquídea takes its name from the orchids that adorn the landscape and symbolise the beauty and strength of the area. The result is a coffee with a flavour profile full of citrus notes, sweet caramel and juicy red fruits that reflects the care of the farmers and their passion for quality. This coffee is not just a drink, but a story of the connection between people, landscape and nature. Each cup is a tribute to their work and their desire to create something unique.

Growing and Harvesting

La Orquídea is grown and harvested in the mountains of Colombia, where members of Asoprocafees are committed to sustainable methods and respect for nature. The coffee trees are grown on small farms in ideal conditions that include rich soil, high altitude and a favourable climate. The harvesting is done by hand, allowing for the careful selection of only the best quality ripe cherries. This process not only ensures high quality coffee, but also supports the local communities involved in the production.

Exceptional coffee with an exceptional score

Cupping score is a scoring coffee quality rating used to assess the flavor characteristics of coffee. To be considered a cupping coffee, a coffee must achieve a cupping score of over 80 points.

In contrast, the commodity coffees you buy in supermarkets have scores below 80 points and are intended for mass production, where quality is not the main criterion. These coffees focus more on productivity and price. Cupping Score is a great tool to quickly get a handle on the quality of the coffee and its potential in flavor.

Preparation

La Orquídea is a versatile coffee that excels in a variety of preparation methods, but reveals its flavour profile best in methods that emphasise subtlety and balance. We recommend preparing it as a filtered coffee (e.g. using V60 or Chemex), where its fresh citrus notes, caramel sweetness and juicy red fruits stand out. If you prefer more body, it also works great as a French press or a smooth espresso to bring out its sweet and fruity nuances. For the best experience, use freshly ground coffee and water at around 90-94°C.
