The story behind this coffee

This coffee comes from the Mushonyi processing station, which lies in the heart of the Rutsiro Districts in western Rwanda. Here, coffee trees grow between 1 600 and 1 950 metres above sea level on the steep slopes around Lake Kivu. Some 1 200 farmers deliver their coffee cherries to this station, which was originally built by the army and is now managed by Rwacof. Thanks to excellent conditions and careful processing, Mushonyi guarantees the highest quality coffee.

Growing and Harvesting

The coffee beans for Los Muertos Rwanda go through a traditional washed process. After being hand-picked, the cherries are fermented in water and then washed, resulting in a clean and fresh taste. Drying takes place on terraces under the Rwandan sun, which promotes the development of complex flavours and ensures perfect grain consistency. This meticulous process produces a high quality coffee with a unique flavour profile.

Exceptional coffee with an exceptional score

Cupping score is a scoring coffee quality rating used to assess the flavor characteristics of coffee. To be considered a cupping coffee, a coffee must achieve a cupping score of over 80 points.

In contrast, the commodity coffees you buy in supermarkets have scores below 80 points and are intended for mass production, where quality is not the main criterion. These coffees focus more on productivity and price. Cupping Score is a great tool to quickly get a handle on the quality of the coffee and its potential in taste.

Suitable preparation

Ideal for preparing espresso, where the full and balanced coffee flavour stands out, but also great for ffiltered coffee or French press. We recommend medium grind and fresh water for the best taste experience.
