The Story Behind This Coffee
Castanhas do Brasil – literally “Nuts of Brazil” – is a standout blend of carefully selected coffees from the Carmo De Cachoeira region.
Crafted in collaboration with the renowned Brazilian cooperative Cocatrel, established in 1961 in Tres Pontas, this coffee is a tribute to tradition and craftsmanship. Today, Cocatrel unites over 6,000 farmers who take pride in continuing the legacy of high-quality Brazilian coffee.
The Cocatrel Direct Trade team selects these beans by hand, choosing only those with the sweetest, creamiest nutty profile – a signature taste that defines this lot.
Every sip tells a story of Brazilian heritage, community, and coffee mastery.
Cultivation & Processing
This coffee comes from the Carmo De Cachoeira region, where over half of all farms are under 10 hectares. The ripe cherries are dried using a special static box method that enhances their natural sweetness.
These boxes are one meter deep and use a unique ventilation system that circulates air from the bottom up, ensuring even drying without the need to turn the beans. After reaching the ideal moisture level, the beans are left to rest for 1–2 weeks, allowing the flavor to fully develop.
The result? A delicately sweet and balanced coffee that goes beyond the typical expectations of Brazilian naturals.
Exceptional Coffee with an Exceptional Score
The cupping score is a quality rating used to evaluate the flavor characteristics of coffee.
To qualify as specialty coffee, a lot must score above 80 points.
In contrast, commodity coffees (the kind you’ll find in supermarkets) usually score below 80 and are produced for mass market needs – where price and volume come before taste.
The cupping score helps you quickly understand the true quality and flavor potential of a coffee.
