Los Muertos Ethiopia Bedeye Washed – Lot 2 is an elegant Ethiopian coffee with a clean and balanced character. The Story Behind This Coffee
This specialty coffee comes from the Limmu region in western Ethiopia and was processed at the Bedeye station, one of the most modern processing stations in the region. It features more than 350 African drying beds and works with dozens of local farmers every year.
The project manager is Ahmed Abateman, who has long supported smallholder farmers not only by purchasing coffee cherries at fair prices but also by providing training in organic farming. Farmers are encouraged to use natural fertilizers and compost instead of chemical agents, which allows the coffee to retain its organic certification while also contributing to sustainable farming practices.
Lot 2 features coffee harvested on the second day of the main harvest, when the cherries are at optimal ripeness and offer an exceptionally balanced flavor profile.
Cultivation and Harvest
Coffee grows in the fertile Limmu region, known for its high altitude, fertile soil, and ideal climate for the slow ripening of coffee cherries. These conditions allow for the development of complex flavors and a delicate sweetness.
After being hand-harvested, the ripe cherries are transported to the Bedeye processing station, where they are pulped and washed on the same day. Fermentation and thorough washing remove any remaining pulp, bringing out the coffee’s clean character. The beans are then dried on elevated African drying beds, where they are regularly turned to ensure even drying and maximum quality.
The result is an exceptionally clean, elegant, and harmonious Ethiopian coffee with delicate floral aromas, honeyed sweetness, and juicy fruity notes typical of the Limmu region.
Exceptional Coffee with an Exceptional Score
A cupping score is a point-based assessment of coffee quality used to evaluate its flavor characteristics. To be classified as specialty coffee, a coffee must achieve a cupping score of over 80 points.
In contrast, commodity coffees sold in supermarkets have scores below 80 points and are intended for mass production, where quality is not the primary criterion. These coffees focus more on productivity and price. The cupping score is a great tool for quickly gauging a coffee’s quality and its flavor potential.
Recommended Preparation
It is best enjoyed when brewed using a filter, where it fully develops its clean and elegant flavor profile. The washed processing method brings out subtle notes of black tea, honeyed sweetness, ripe apricots, banana, and exotic lychee, complemented by a pleasant biscuit-like aftertaste.
